THE FOUNDER, A REFLECTION AND THE BEGINNING OF A STORY
Belgian-born Sébastien Bugnon has traveled the four corners of the globe for adventures and to see landscapes worthy of art photographs. Climb the closest summit to the stars in Ecuador, teach kite surfing in Zanzibar or get a master’s degree in Business Management in Medellin, Colombia. Then came the global pandemic, which had a revealing effect on him. Overnight, he lived in a cloister at home, contemplating landscapes in photos that made him vibrate so much without being able to live these experiences. Even kiteboarding in the North Sea was forbidden!
If this time it was a government measure that prevented him from experiencing, next time it might be the turn of the planet to say STOP.
Imagine a world where wildlife would have been destroyed, where we would no longer ski because of lack of snow and where the plastic in our oceans would make diving or surfing impossible. The nature photo would be very poor!
It was time to act, but how?
Point out the problems, show the devastating effects of global warming with apocalyptic aerial photo, create an anxious atmosphere? The media does…
What if we flip the question around? And if we start with “Why”, what sense can we find in the action?
According to Sébastien, the best way to take action is through art photographs. Because through the prism of the art photo, nature, which makes our world a sublime place, can only convince us to protect it.
X-PLORAR, A MINDSET INSPIRED BY PHOTOGRAPHY
Our definition of X-plorar is to dare to get lost to find what we are looking for. It is for this simple reason that the X in X-Plorar represents two opposing directional arrows. When we x-plore, we discover, we make room for the unknown. The central “O” represents both a compass and the diaphragm of an art photo camera. It is this diaphragm that directs the eye and heart of the x-plorer, and nothing else. This same diaphragm invites us to carry out the x-plorar mission.
