L'œuvre d'art I Breathing Under Manta Rays
Encounter with several manta rays flying in the blue during a dive in the islands of Palau.
The artist I Enric Gener
Enric Gener was born in 1982 in Menorca, a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. He grew up there until entering university, where he studied art and design and had his first contact with photography. He started working in the field of motion graphics and design, first in companies, then as a freelancer.
In 2009 he changed his lifestyle, bought an underwater camera and escaped from the city. Since his work is purely digital, he started working remotely. This allowed him to live in many different places, but always close to the sea. As he never needed to use photography for commercial purposes, it allowed him to be completely free to find his working model and his own style.
La Collection I Underwater
This series is an iconography of Enric's relationship with the sea.
Formally, it tries to be simple and clean, without overloading the frame with too many elements, just taking the essentials. He pushes you to live the experience of being underwater in the same landscapes and situations as him. His work is a documentary about the real life surrounding him. Because he tries to spend his life in the sea or very close to it. His real passion is the sea, and then photography. In that order it's so important to him. But also, photography is his partner in all of this. Sometimes it is so difficult to walk, swim or travel with the camera. But other times, it's the camera that drives him to walk further, swim deeper, or travel farther. The sea is another world, one step away from our normal life. There, you go to the depths, the cold, the darkness, the humidity and the vagueness. Where you're in constant motion and, if that's not enough, you can't breathe. And suddenly, a human being, seemingly out of context, but at the same time able to be closely linked to this infinite blue space.
